National Army Museum

We are very excited to be working with the National Army Museum to develop their education offer to special schools. We have developed a session about Mary Seacole and Florence Nighingale which is now being offered to  SEND groups.

We began our work with a playday; Matt, Emily, Alison and Catherine shared extracts from Peoplescape projects and led creative exercises to explore museum objects and potential sessions with the museum education team. The team are great and we had a lot of fun.

Catherine and Alison then observed one of the museums mainstream education sessions: “Florence and Mary” which the team had identified as having potential as a SEND session.  Catherine and Alison discussed with the team, aspects that would and wouldn’t work for a SEND group. They are then developed a SEND version of the session which they trialed in May and supported the team to begin delivering.

This is the first session developed specifically for special schools in the museum. The museum are hoping to develop several more new SEND sessions in the future subject to funding.
